Delirium by Lauren Oliver

I HAVE THE DELIRIA; I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK!

This is the book I have been looking for; Ever since I finished the Legend series, I haven’t found another good dystopian – until now. Now, I know many of you will think ‘great, another book about love’, but trust me, this is not what you think it will be. If you liked the Matched trilogy you will probably LOVE this one. It’s a perfect mix of Matched and Uglies. The friendship of Hana and Lena reminds me a lot of the relationship of Tally and Shay in the Uglies series, which I also loved.

This is the first book by Lauren Oliver I have read, and I will now be hunting out all her books, old and new, and binging them. I made the mistake of only buying delirium; but no fear with 30 seconds of finishing I went on amazon and bought the next two… #2dayShipping! And can we just take a moment to appreciate the beautiful new covers!

Some of my favorite quotes:

“I said, I prefer the ocean when it’s gray. Or not really gray. A pale, in-between color. It reminds me of waiting for something good to happen.”

“I just want to be normal, like everybody else.”
“Are you sure that being like everybody else will make you happy?”

lauren-oliverAbout the Author

Lauren Oliver comes from a family of writers and so has always (mistakenly) believed that spending hours in front of the computer every day, mulling over the difference between “chortling” and “chuckling,” is normal. She has always been an avid reader.

She attended the University of Chicago, where she continued to be as impractical as possible by majoring in philosophy and literature. After college, she attended the MFA program at NYU and worked briefly as the world’s worst editorial assistant, and only marginally better assistant editor, at a major publishing house in New York. Her major career contributions during this time were flouting the corporate dress code at every possible turn and repeatedly breaking the printer. Before I Fall is her first published novel.

I’m really happy you liked this one! Sadly I didn’t, but it’s a case of “it’s not you it’s me”. I think the author describes the world too well, a world without love, laugh, music, and it’s just really bland and boring for me… It’s sad because the concept is really interesting. I still want to read her other books though!
