Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday. The topic for this week is Second Book is Best.
We’ve talked about series that went downhill, and series that are worth it, but which series were best in the middle?
1) Prodigy (Legend Trilogy) by Marie Lu
June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector. It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long. But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong? Read My Full Series Review Here.
2) Pandemonium (Delirium Trilogy) by Lauren Oliver
The second book in Lauren Oliver’s remarkable New York Times bestselling trilogy about forbidden love, revolution, and the power to choose.
In this electrifying follow-up to Delirium, Lena is on a dangerous course that takes her through the unregulated Wilds and into the heart of a growing resistance movement. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.
I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do. The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her. I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. Read my full review here.
3) Pretties (The Uglies Book 2) by Scott Westerfeld
In Tally’s world, your 16th birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent Ugly into a stunningly attractive Pretty, and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is having a really good time. Just before her birthday, Tally discovered that turning Pretty comes with a terrible price. She vowed to accept the operation, but with the understanding that her friends on the outside would rescue her, and let her be the guinea pig for the experimental and highly dangerous cure they’re developing.
But in the second book of the Uglies series, Tally’s Pretty. And everything’s changed. The new, Pretty Tally is totally happy right where she is. She doesn’t think she needs any kind of cure at all. When someone from her Ugly life shows up with a message, Tally has a hard time listening. Did she really promise to give all this up? Is she bound by a promise she made when she was a different person? If there is anything left of the old Tally, how will she fight her way out to keep her word and help her friends? Read My Full Review Here.
4) Crossed (The Matched Trilogy) by Ally Condie
Cassia truly unfolds and shows her strength and wonder in Crossed. As she fights against the society because she no longer believes they have the ultimate answer – she finds herself in new territory, facing new dangers, and taking on even higher scale questions.

5) Prophecy (The Legacy Series) By Ellery Kane
The un-put-downable saga continues in Prophecy, the second book of Ellery Kane’s Legacy trilogy…
Over a year has passed since Lex Knightley journeyed alone into desolate San Francisco. The Guardian Force is disbanded, emotion-altering drugs banned, and citizens allowed to return to the seemingly resurrected city. For Lex, life is almost normal, but normal is precarious. Normal has a way of falling apart.
One rainy night changes everything. Out on parole, Quin McAllister’s father is arrested for the brutal murder of his new wife. As the Resistance resurges, claiming a conspiracy, Lex doesn’t know what-or who-to believe. When old enemies resurface in new disguises and trusted friends start keeping secrets, normal splits right down the middle, leaving Lex and Quin on opposite sides.
Prophecy-the second novel of Ellery Kane’s Legacy trilogy-continues the story of Lex and Quin, testing the strength of friendship, forgiveness, and love. Read My Full Review Here.
