Zeroes Review
By Scott Westerfeld, Margo Lanagan, and Deborah Biancotti
Release Date: September 29, 2015
Zeroes is a new and exciting spin on your typical superhero story. Westerfeld, Lanagan, and Biancotti come together to create a character-driven tale of unlikely-hero, millennials bound together by a similar anomaly.
Told in multiple point of view, each Zero experiences their own inner battles facing the struggle between right and wrong while honing their powers to find their true self and in some cases even love – learning in the end that every power has a price.
The Zeroes will explore their individual superhuman abilities to find out who they are, and come together to recognize their strength in numbers and understand who, together, they can become. Their individuality can destroy them, but their unity will release the strength to accomplish The Ultimate Goal.
“‘We’ll always protect each other. Especially when our powers, when what we are, gets us into trouble…. We Zeroes can protect our own.’ And Flicker knew those words were true, because the Zeroes stuck together. Always and forever.”
OVERVIEW
X-Men meets Heroes when New York Times bestselling author Scott Westerfeld teams up with award-winning authors Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti to create a sizzling new series filled with action and adventure.
Don’t call them heroes.
But these six Californian teens have powers that set them apart.
Take Ethan, a.k.a. Scam. He’s got a voice inside him that’ll say whatever you want to hear, whether it’s true or not. Which is handy, except when it isn’t—like when the voice starts gabbing in the middle of a bank robbery. The only people who can help are the other Zeroes, who aren’t exactly best friends these days.
Enter Nate, a.k.a. Bellwether, the group’s “glorious leader.” After Scam’s SOS, he pulls the scattered Zeroes back together. But when the recue blows up in their faces, the Zeroes find themselves propelled into whirlwind encounters with ever more dangerous criminals. At the heart of the chaos they find Kelsie, who can take a crowd in the palm of her hand and tame it or let it loose as she pleases.
Filled with high-stakes action and drama, Zeroes unites three powerhouse authors for the opening installment of a thrilling new series.
Character Overview
SCAM was by far my favorite character – the screw up teenager. Simply just wanting a ride home, yet continuously getting himself into some kind of mess. And ‘The Voice’ getting him out…or is it the other way around.
ANON… well….. for some reason I can’t remember much about this guy. However, one thing I do know is that I will never go to bed without a glass of water again.
CRASH can take down any electronic device. So the next time your phone doesn’t work or your car won’t start, I would blame her. Now, when I read, I normally have some form of minor noise in the background – a quiet TV or music. I kid you not. When I was reading one of Crashes part where she was talking about the annoyance of her brothers video game system, I got up and turned the TV off immediately. And the best part is I don’t know if it was for me or if I was subconsciously doing it for her.
MOB can keep a whole group from getting jumpy or really bring that crowd together and feel any emotion. She is in many ways the DJ at the party.
FLICKER’s power has the coolest of all. She may be blind, but she sees through others eyes – not only vision, but also giving herself multiple points of view as well as multiple perspectives on one situation. And she can stretch her power as far as a crowd can see.
BELLWETHER The glorious leader. Controlling the energy of a group and bringing them all together with one common purpose – The Ultimate Goal.
