Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday. The topic for this week is Books You’re Thankful For.

sarahSarah’s Pick

1) Harry Potter Series

This is the series that got me into reading in the first place. When I was in 5th grade, we were allowed to pick any book to do a book report on. My mom took me to the bookstore and remember finding Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and being really excited about it. Immediately had to come back for the next two books (only 3 were out at that time) and I even remember finishing the 3rd book in one day.

2) Hunger Games Series

This is the book that got me back into reading again after college. I remember staying in on a Friday night in my little 1 bedroom apartment just sitting in my bed cuddled up to my cat and puppy reading this. I was immediately hooked. Went out and bought book 2 for a plane ride I had coming up and finished it before I got back home…. after my trip, my flight landed and I headed straight to the bookstore to get book 3 before even heading home.

3) Graceling

This book reminds me daily to never trust someone with 2 different colored eyes. Enough said.

4) Fangirl

A big shout-out goes to this book for simply understanding me, when the rest of my friends couldn’t. Forever fangirling about Fangirl. Thank You Rainbow Rowell…Also what a great name!

5) Unwind Series

Thanks to this book I was able to get out of a big reading slump I was having. This is still probably one of my favorite series EVER. Hands down some of the best writing I have ever read. PS. Never trust anyone with a shark tattoo.

1) Number the Stars/Where the Red Fern Grows

I can’t remember which I read first in elementary school, but these were the first books that I emotionally responded it. I had never cried from a book before or felt/cared so deeply for the characters and story.

2) Jane Eyre

I read this in high school, and it showed me that if you give a book a chance, it can surprise you. It also made me less scared to read classic novels.

3) Perks of Being a Wallflower

I read this one summer in high school, and I remembered devouring it. I believe it was also the first book I ever re-read. I had never wanted to re-read a book immediately after finishing it.

4) Twilight

This may come as a surprise pick to you all. My first job after graduating college was an assistant librarian at a middle school. This was around the time when the whole world was about Twilight. I hadn’t read much for pleasure while I was in college, and I wanted to know what all the fuss was about with these books. I was hooked even with its terrible writing and plots, but it did reawaken me to my need of reading. I haven’t stopped since.

5) Harry Potter

I was WAY later to the Harry Potter. It wasn’t even on my radar until I watched the first three movies in college. I was HOOKED. Then when I became the assistant librarian, I decided this might be a good time to read them since I knew liked the story from watching the movies. My world was changed. I read them all in about 7 weeks. I wanted to immerse myself in this world. I didn’t want to leave it. Harry Potter will be my favorite series. Always.
